We had the all time biggest, bad-est and most sweltering Tiburon walk in hottie history on Saturday! We left Ft Mason with 70 walkers and along the way three lovely Avon Walkers joined in the fun. Temperatures steadily rose to the mid-90’s and by the time we hit Strawberry everyone was really feeling the heat but you all kept on hydrating and truckin’ along. We refreshed you with iced baby wipes, strawberries and baggies of ice at the top of that nasty hill. Every single walker made it into Tiburon for the 12:30pm ferry!!! Thank you all for keeping an eye out for one another on such a hard walk. Way to go walkers!
How many hotties does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Well... I actually have no idea but I do know how many gallons of liquids and pounds of snacks it takes to keep 73 walkers fueled. We ploughed though:

19 Gallons Water (and I should have had more for that last few miles!)
13 pounds of watermelon
10 pounds of bananas
6 pounds of strawberries
5 gallons Gatorade
5 bags of ice
1 bag of oranges
1 pound of candy
1 tub red vines
On Sunday a group of about 20 walkers (half walked the day before!) huddled together at the foggy Warming Hut in the cold wind with the seagulls and the remnants of many a picnic from the day before. Our ice breaker was: What book are you reading? We are reading everything from "Moby Dick" to "Eat, Pray, Love" to "I Love you Stinky Face" (a kid's book.) We stretched our legs with an easy 10 mile stroll along the waterfront to the Ferry Plaza and back. We took a long break inside the Ferry Building with Peet’s coffee, yummy Acme breads and pastries.

Mother Nature sure has a sense of humor. Saturday when we started it was 73 degrees; on Sunday it was 52 degrees. Here’s to living in the Bay Area!
People have asked why I (and we, the hotties) do what I do. Leading training walks is a labor of love and we do it out deep commitment to the exceptionally positive and supportive community we have created. I do not get paid to organize and lead these walks nor is any of the food, hydration or other supplies paid for by the events. This is a totally volunteer driven effort! The Hottie Fund jar I put out at our training walks is to offset these expenses. Six years, hundreds of walks and thousands of walkers later I can honestly say we do not make a penny in profit. We will never “charge” for our walks or for the snacks, etc., but if you want to contribute to the Hottie Fund we’d appreciate it enormously. And, just like our personal fundraising, every dollar helps!
